Pewter & Fall Foliage

Happy (almost) November! I have been the laziest blogger on the planet recently... If you've stuck around over the last 3 months, thank you! You deserve a medal. (I do not.) Apparently, blogging comes in spurts for me.

Overall, we've had a pretty low-key fall so far, punctuated by a brief moment of craziness... A huge tree branch fell on the roof of our house last month, which wouldn't have caused us too must angst (especially since we are renters), except for the fact that the branch landed squarely on the vent pipe on the roof. I have never really given much thought to what that little pipe that sticks out of the roof above the bathroom does, but I now know that if a tree lands on that little pipe, it will make your toilet tank explode. And crack the cast iron pipe that extends down into the basement. The broken pipe, in turn, will bust through the wall between your closet and the bathroom. And, until you have the presence of mind to turn off the water main, the broken toilet tank will flood your bathroom, drain down the laundry chute, and rain into your basement.

In retrospect, it was really not quite as bad as it sounds... especially in light of the recent devestation caused on the east coast by Hurricane Sandy. But, it did lead to a couple weeks of mess and disorder while things were being repaired, which led to the house not really being "blog worthy" for a while. Luckily, things have long since returned to normal!

This morning, I went outside and foraged for some pretty fall foliage to display in my antique pewter pitcher. We don't have a lot to choose from in our yard (and I refrained from snipping the beautiful red berries off of our neighbors' crab apple tree), but it doesn't take much to add some festive fall color.

Happy Fall, everyone!
And I promise, it won't be another two months before I touch base again... well, probably not.

Vintage Garden Seed Packets

I love the beautiful shades of green and the hand-drawn illustrations of these vintage garden seed packets from Card Seed Co.

They are perfect for displaying in a vintage metal pin flower frog, especially a long rectangular one, like these copper colored ones available in my etsy shop.

Who knew cabbage could be so stylish!

Gardener's Hand Care Kit

I've been working on a brand new gardeners set for summer, and it's finally here! The "Gardener's Hand Care Kit" is a collection of all-natural lemony-herb scented soaps and creams, paired with a wooden soap dish and nail brush for a perfect sink-side clean-up set that will get your hardworking hands clean and soft again after working all day in the garden.

But enough of the sales pitch! This is the reason I'm so excited about this new gift set...

The vintage French seed packet labels! I ordered a whole pack of these darling little vintage carrot labels from Jane at Simply French Vintage, a beautiful etsy shop from across the pond that carries all sorts of vintage french goods, such as buttons, seed packets, linen towels, burlap sacks, and vintage spools of string. Simply gorgeous is more like it!

I was so excited to get my the package in the mail a few days ago! I skipped around the house for a few minutes out of pure excitement (you know how girls jump up and down and clap their hands together in a rapid flutter of little girly "mini-claps" when they get excited? Yeah, that's me.) But these Carotte Rouge (red carrot) labels add just the perfect splash of color and touch of vintage garden charm that I was looking for for my newest Gardeners gift set!

I mounted the vintage label on a piece of textured off-white cardstock with a hand-torn edge, and tied the whole thing up with a big, thick, mossy-green ribbon.

If you know a gardener who would be as excited as I am about these Hand Care Kits, you can order them here for $24 each. I will be adding them to my etsy store as well, but I couldn't wait to show you!

Garden Details

Shelves, tables, and centerpieces throughout my home are sprouting a garden-fresh theme!

Potted topiaries, garden tools, and pots dress up my antique white ironstone collection...

A HUGE spool of twine...

And vintage metal flower frogs galore!

A weathered wood garden tray full of urns, potted candles, and a glass cloche serves as a centerpiece on the dining room table...

Wire nests, eggs, and my favorite scalloped edge pots...

An antique bowl filled with vintage terra cotta garden pots, twine, and moss on the coffee table...

And, of course, what's a garden without a rabbit?
