One Perfect Cookie

The crowning achievement of a Christmas Eve day spent elbow-deep in butter, sugar, and red sprinkles... 10 dozen perfect little sour cream drop cookies topped with clouds of rich, sweet buttercream.  These are hands-down my favorite kind of cookie.

PERFECT SOUR CREAM COOKIES:

1 stick of butter (softened)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sour cream

Cream butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla together; beat until fluffy.  Mix dry ingredients together and add a little at a time, alternating with the sour cream.  Mix thoroughly.  Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a baking sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees for 11 minutes.  Cool on a wire rack before frosting.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING:

3 sticks of butter (softened)
5 cups powdered sugar
3/4 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter on med-high speed until light & creamy, about 2 minutes.  Reduce speed to medium and add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.  After every 2 additions, beat on high for 10 seconds before adding more sugar.  Add vanilla and beat until smooth.

One batch of dough makes about 5 dozen cookies.  Enjoy!
